Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel, and Captiva

Take advantage of the many activities available when visiting Greater Fort Myers. With that being said, let’s take a look at our favorite places to see and things to do in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel, and Captiva:

Spend a Day on Sanibel Island

Sanibel Island is home to many activities that are both on and off the beach. Whether you’re looking for nature tours, bicycle rentals, tennis, golfing, or even local entertainment, you’ll find it here. Shopping is another common activity in Sanibel, but you won’t find any large commercial malls, only lots of beautiful and unique galleries and shops. If you do find yourself visiting here during your vacation, don’t forget to check out shelling on Bowman’s Beach and the famed JN “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

Shop ‘til You Drop

If you’re one of the people who love to get in as much shopping as possible on vacation, then you are in luck! No matter where you’re at in SW Florida, you are never too far from world-class shopping venues. Between the luxurious 5th Avenue shops in Naples, Miromar Outlets in Estero, Gulf Coast Town Center in Fort Myers, the Promenade at Bonita Bay, or the small, old Florida shops of Pine Island, you will not be disappointed!

Marvel at the “Real Florida” at Four Mile Cove Eco Preserve.

Cape Coral, Florida, is north of Naples and the largest city in Southwest Florida. It’s a lively and vibrant community that’s home to over 400 miles of canals, along with lush mangroves and many varieties of birds and other wildlife. One of the most unique places to visit in the area is Four Mile Cove Eco Preserve. Here you’ll enjoy a quiet, shaded boardwalk stroll through a mangrove estuary. Depending on the time of year, you have the chance to see birds, fish, alligators, and more.

Take a Beach Day

As you know, SW Florida is located right on the Gulf of Mexico, so there are plenty of opportunities for spending days at the beach. Some of the top options include Vanderbilt Beach in Naples, Lovers Key State Park in Fort Myers, Barefoot Beach in Naples, and Tiger Tail Beach on Marco Island. Just be sure to check the website for each location because some of them charge a small fee for park entrance, but it’s usually well worth it for their better facilities.

Edison & Ford Winter Estates

Regardless of whether you’re a history buff or not, the winter estates belonging to Thomas Edison and Henry Ford are a must-see! Edison visited SW Florida in 1885, at which time he bought a piece of property right on the Caloosahatchee River to build a vacation home. Today, you’ll enjoy strolling through Edison’s gardens, marveling at his early inventions and laboratory, as well as looking into the houses belonging to both Edison and Ford. And don’t forget to check out the pool, as they keep it just as Edison did when he owned it!

Attend MLB Spring Training Games

Are you a baseball fan? If so, visiting Southwest Florida in the spring provides you with an excellent opportunity to take in some MLB spring training games. In Fort Myers, you can see the Minnesota Twins or Boston Red Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays train in Port Charlotte, and if you travel just a bit north to Sarasota, you can also see the Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Have Dinner on the Murder Mystery Train

In Fort Myers, aboard the Seminole Gulf Railway Dinner Train, you can transform into a super sleuth and help solve a murder mystery over a five-course meal. This opportunity is available each week from Wednesday to Sunday. It includes a three-and-a-half-hour trip that takes you through Fort Myers’ warehouse and backyards, tracks over the Caloosahatchee River, and through Florida Gulf Coast’s countryside.

So when you're ready to go, we have been providing affordable, courteous, and stress-free charter bus rentals from South Florida to Southwest Florida since 1986.
